The Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert is a private non-profit organization founded in 1986 by a group of Palm Springs Desert Resort Area citizens who desired to provide an interactive and fun environment where children's intellectual curiosity and self-expression could be freely expressed through touch, play, listening and learning.
The mission here at the Children's Discovery Museum is to provide inventive and interactive exhibits and programs, encouraging children to learn about themselves and discover the world around them.
The Location and th Facility:
The Children's Museum of the Greater Palm Springs Desert area is located just west of the intersection of Bob Hope on Gerald Ford Drive at 71-701 Gerald Ford Drive
in Rancho Mirage, California.
The large museum facility features 8,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits for children of all ages — and the whole family to enjoy.
Situated on more than six acres donated by the late Ambassador and Mrs. Walter Annenberg (TV Guide, publishing empire), the Children's Museum campus also has a multipurpose performance center, outdoor amphitheater, covered picnic area, museum store, and a citrus grove.

In addition to the main exhibit gallery, the museum offers school field trips, group tours, special musical performances and events, art classes, ballet classes, birthday parties, holiday and summer camps, toddler classes, teen programs, kindergarten readiness workshops, educational outreach programs on school campuses, and other quality programs and services for all ages.
Also, facilities are available for private party use, corporate events, and family reunions.
The Children's Museum has served over 600,000 people since its opening of the Rancho Mirage museum facility in 1998, including over 80,000 school children opn field trips, according to the Children's Museum of the Desert.
