Palm Springs Film Festival has announced the dates for the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival. The event dates are January 6-17, 2010, in Palm Springs, California.
The upcoming 2011 Palm Springs Film Festival will celebrate its 22snd year for the annual event held in Palm Springs.
According to the film festival's promoters, the world-wide International Palm Springs Film Festival continues to grow in popularity and attendance each year. More than 400 screenings of 200 films from more than 60 countries are planned for the 2010 Festival. The selection of films for screening included a total of 69 premieres (4 World, 40 U.S. and 25 North American).
Also, 55 of the 63 films submitted for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the Academy Awards will be screened at this year's Festival, held from January 6-17, 2011. The entire run of the Festival setting new records in film screenings, box office and attendance.


The Palm Springs International Festival continues to grow at an impressive pace each year.

The twelve-day Palm Springs Film Festival features films from 73 countries and seminars, special events, social gatherings, awards and gala receptions.
According to Palm Springs Film Fest Director Darryl Macdonald, the Palm Springs Film Festival is "positioned on the annual film calendar to be a key promotional platform and an integral indicator of the front runners in the year-end awards sweepstakes. Fully 38 Oscar® nominations went to films and filmmaking guests who were featured at this year's event."

The Festival's popular annual celebrity-studded Awards Gala will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, continuing its tradition of being the first awards show of its kind for the year.
Last year's Palm Springs Film Festival awards gala honored the cast of Babel, Adam Beach, Jessica Biel, Cate Blanchett, Alejandro González Iñárritu; Todd Field, Philip Glass, Little Miss Sunshine, Sydney Pollack and Kate Winslet.

Dates for the 2010 Palm Springs Film Festival of Short Films "Palm Springs Shortfest" are June 22-28, 2010 held in Palm Springs, California.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival of Short Films has named award-winning films in categories including best animated, live action and student shorts since its debut in 1995.
In 2000, this popular Palm Springs film festival added a documentary category as well. Two juries of filmmakers and industry types screen all the films and then announce the winners to the anxious short-film auteurs at the end of the festival.

This year's Festival line-up will include an especially exciting showcase of special programs, theme parties, seminars and master classes. An Oscar® qualifying event, in the Festival's first 15 years, 68 short films premiering at ShortFest have gone on to win Academy Award® nominations, including four of this year's nominees.

Film Festival Categories
The list of festival categories includes: Best Animation, Best Live Action (15 minutes and under), Best Live Action (over 15 minutes), Best Documentary , Best Student Animation, Best Student Live Action (15 minutes and under), Best Student Live Action (over 15 minutes), Best Student Documentary and the Best Of The Palm Springs Film Festival Award.
Entries are required to be available for projection in 35mm, 16mm or Beta SP. A Shorts Market is also held during the festival, consisting of a video library of all the entries for the viewing pleasure of agents and executives.
The Palm Springs Film Festival of Short Films is a key opportunity for aspiring Hollywood filmmakers to get their shorts shown. Accordingly, the competition for entry is steep. This can only mean that the quality of the films screened is higher than at most short film festivals and, of course, it can also be the first important step in a filmmaker's career.
