Rancho Mirage - A Luxury Resort Town 
Rancho Mirage is a relatively new resort town located in the greater Palm Springs metro area, incorporated as a city in 1973. At the time of its establishment, Rancho Mirage's population was about 3,000 people. Today, Rancho Mirage is a sparkling resort town with an abundance of fine golf courses, new homes, condominiums and golf properties with an estimated population of approximately 17,000. Rancho Mirage has a total area of about 24 square miles. One of Rancho Mirage's well known features is "Restaurant Row" along Highway 111 featuring many excellent upscale restaurants.

Similar to Indian Wells California in its feel, Rancho Mirage does not have a downtown core, yet it has wonderful upscale restaurants and shops mostly along Highway 111 that runs through Rancho Mirage and all of the other greater Palm Springs metro area with exception of Desert Hot Springs.

Located along Highway 111, The River is an upscale indoor-outdoor shopping mall located in the heart of Rancho Mirage near hotels and golf resorts. The River features a multiplex theater, and upscale restaurants and shopping. And like most of the Desert area resort communities, the population of Rancho Mirage nearly doubles during peak winter months when temporary residents who come to Rancho Mirage on vacation or for several months to enjoy their winter homes, condos or vacation home rentals.

Rancho Mirage Golf Courses and Country Clubs 
 Rancho Mirage is home to about a dozen great golf courses and country club gated communities. The city's first golf resort was known as the Thunderbird Ranch. In addition, Rancho Mirage is home to golf resort properties such as the Tamarisk, Mission Hills, the Springs, Sunrise, Rancho Las Palmas hotel, Rancho Mirage, Morningside, Mission Hills, Westin Hotels Mission Hills resort, and Tuscania.

Rancho Mirage Resorts 
The Agua Caliente Mission Band of Cahuilla Indians of Palm Springs (Palm Springs earliest settlers) owns and operates the upscale and new (opened in 2008) 12-story Agua Caliente Spa, Casino & Resort Hotel adjacent to Rancho Mirage Interstate 10 and Bob Hope Drive. Set along the Interstate, the spa hotel is detached from the main part of the city of Rancho Mirage and stands alone without a residential housing surrounding it. A huge auditorium-style upscale theater that features shows from top name entertainers is also part of the Resort Hotel and Spa.

According to 2000 US census information, Rancho Mirage was home to about 13,000 year-round residents with approximately 6,800 households, and approximately 4,000 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 92.69% White, 0.89% African American, 0.20% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 3.62% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.44% of the population.

Rancho Mirage was founded and officially incorporated as a city in 1973 from a merger of Mirage Cove with five neighborhood areas known as the "Cove communities" of Rancho Mirage including Desert Cove, Magnesia Cove, Palmas Cove, Tamarisk and Thunderbird. In 1973 when Rancho Mirage was incorporated it had only about 3,000 residents.

Rancho Mirage Annenberg Estate 
The world-famous Walter Annenberg Estate called "Sunnylands" in located on the private estate of 650 acres (and home 35,000 square feet) in Rancho Mirage, owned by the estate of the late philanthropist and publishing tycoon Walter Annenberg. Long the home of celebrations and a popular destination for the rich and famous including Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Queen Elizabeth and others. Many former US Presidents have vacationed here in. For many years, Rancho Mirage was home to Betty and late President Gerald Ford who own a home in Rancho Mirage. The world-famous Betty Ford Recovery Center is located in the Eisenhower Medical Center of Rancho Mirage.

Rancho Mirage Beautiful Golf Courses 
Rancho Mirage features great golf courses and beautiful upscale homes both new and appealing vintage mid-century modern era homes build in the 1950s to 1970s era. Rancho Mirage also offers a dozen golf courses and country clubs. The city's first golf resort was the Thunderbird Guest Ranch, opened in 1946 for entertainers and business elite. Other golf resorts in Ranch Mirage California include Tamarisk (with great mid-century modern homes and condos surrounding it), Mission Hills, the Springs, Sunrise, Rancho Las Palmas hotel, Rancho Mirage, Morningside, Mission Hills North Course, Westin Hotels Mission Hills resort. The newest development, Tuscania, opened in 2006.

Rancho Mirage Shopping & Dining 
Rancho Mirage has a popular indoor-outdoor mall called "the River,' a park-like shopping complex, opened in 2005 centered around a man-made river/lake that is designed to appear like a moat surrounding the retail and restaurant outdoor mall. The River in Rancho Mirage features fine restaurants and popular chain-style restaurants such as the Cheesecake Factory and P.F.
