The park spans 800,000 acres of protected land where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet, so you'll be greeted by two ecosystems and the variety of plant and animal life that comes with each. Enjoy it on foot on one of the park's many hiking trails, or via rock climbing, mountain biking, birding, or backpacking for the more adventurous travelor. Check ahead of time for park ranger-led programs and special events, and do plan to stay after dark—the stargazing in Joshua Tree National Park is so spectacular, it was named an International Dark Sky Park.
