Full of classic mid-century design and all the comforts of 21st-century living, this three-bedroom property offers a wonderful home base for a family or a group of friends near the heart of Palm Springs. Designed by Donald Wexler AIA in an iconic butterfly-roof design, this home was thoughtfully remodeled in 2012 and now offers an updated air conditioning system, dual-paned windows and sliders, and a new 50-foot swimming pool (heated for a fee) with a shallow tanning ledge, a fountain, umbrella holes, and an attached spa (heated for a fee). The south-facing backyard is punctuated by citrus and palm trees, a gas barbecue, and comfortable seating for admiring the view of Mt. San Jacinto. Each evening, you can retire to the living room and the warming gas fireplace to stream Netflix and Hulu on the 48-inch Smart TV.

WHAT’S NEARBY

This home is located three miles east of downtown Palm Springs and Palm Canyon Drive, the main strip that's known for its excellent restaurants, boutiques, art galleries, and nightlife. When you're not out and about on the town, you can tee off at incredible golf courses in the area, take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (seven miles west), or go for a hike in Tahquitz Canyon (five miles southwest) or Indian Canyons (eight miles south). The famous shopping district of El Paseo is also only 13 miles southeast in downtown Palm Desert.

THINGS TO KNOW

Outdoor music is prohibited. Music that is played indoors must not be heard outdoors. City ordinance states that any music that is audible from the property line is a violation. People noise during the day is permissible but must be measured and reasonable. Daytime is considered 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.

It is a very cute house and almost feels like home. If you stay there and want the pool heated (you pay for it) make sure the company does it. I paid over $300 to have the pool heated and it wasn't. It was cold water the entire time (even the hot tub/spa

Pools have complex equipment and occasionally replacement parts are needed. Unfortunately, after your stay, it was discovered that the pool sensor needed to be replaced. We loved our stay here! Like any place, there are pros and cons, but for us the backyard and pool area were so unbeatable that any "cons" are overshadowed. I'll list my details below in case some of these items are more cons than pros for others looking to stay here, but overall we loved it and will be back for a future stay.

* The house was exactly as pictured: clean, well supplied, everything you need for your stay. Some small details or updates could be made, but nothing that would make us not want to stay here again. (Plenty of bath and pool towels, maybe could have supplied a few more rolls of toilet paper or paper towels.)
* The location is a little further out from the main drag than originally thought, but we didn't mind it. It's just past the airport, so you definitely get the noise from the planes taking off; which didn't bother us. There aren't too many planes coming and going. The noisier part of this house is that it backs up to a very busy street... cars (and sirens) all day long. Again, it didn't bother us too much but if you're looking for complete silence it might be too noisy for you.
* The management of the house was just okay. Communication leading up to the stay was hard to track down (we were trying to find out info on heating the pool and jacuzzi). We ended up having to call about 10 times before we got our answers. Also, they mentioned that our entry email would contain information on any pool or yard maintenance days/times if they coincide with our stay. The email didn't say anything so we assumed there wouldn't be anyone coming by, however that was not the case. The pool guy came by one morning AND a pest guy came another morning and sprayed the whole yard while we were there. They have access to the side gate with a key, so they just let themselves in unannounced. Again, not a huge inconvenience but would've been nice to know ahead of time so we weren't surprised by someone walking around in the backyard without us knowing and our dog barking like crazy.

Those are just a few of our thoughts to give anyone more insight to the place. We've stayed at a few Palm Springs vacation rental properties in the past, and this one is by far the best one we've stayed in... all because of the amazing pool and backyard.

The house is pleasant, but the management of the house is terrible. Two days after we arrived the toilets became seriously blocked (unusable) and the next day the showers were also backed up. I understand things like this happen, but the service we had from the property management company was appalling. After 6 frantic calls to them (remember no toilets or showers!) they finally sent a repair man who was unable to get the plumbing working. This was then followed by another visit from the same man later in the evening with the same results. We were eventually allowed a plumber (clearly, they did not want to spend any money) at 9pm; he helped but could not get things fully working. Another plumber had to visit the next day to finally restore the plumbing. Apologies and explanations from the management company were nonexistent.

We enjoyed lounging in the pool; cocktails under the palm trees; naps on the couch; and cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. The place was spotless with plenty of towels for pool and bath. The Wifi was strong for all our Zoom calls. This was our second stay at the Palm and Citrus and we plan to return again.

Overall we had a great time at this house. The design and architecture are fantastic and the backyard is a gem. We do wish the hot tub had actually been hot. It was barely warmer than the pool. We also were not aware that this neighborhood is one where the winds are so strong.

Cool House, Management a Bit Lax

The architecture and renovation are exactly what you want in a Palm Springs experience. The house is in a cool little subdivision of other modest Wexler houses. The yard is large and beautifully desert landscaped with a gorgeous pool that unfortunately we could not use (see below). It is about an 8 minute drive from the main Palm Canyon Drive strip but so long as you have a car it feels conveniently located. We also loved having a cool and convenient to operate fireplace. It was super appreciated given the weather was cool in mid-March. Unfortunately, we found management/maintenance of the location a little lax. Although we paid to have pool heated and waited two days for it to heat up, it never did. We called for help and the maintenance guys said the system was off. He turned it on, but it was the day before we left so we never got to swim given that the temperature was in the high 60s and it takes more than 24 hours to heat the pool. Also, the directions binder needs to be updated as the TV is a different system than the one in the binder. The house is also showing a little wear and tear. The living room rug has some stains, tile in shower needs re-grouting, and the dishwasher is old and probably needs to be replaced. It left a soap film on all the dishes. Or maybe they just need to invest in better dishwasher soap or a rinsing agent. It was also a little disheartening that the toilet paper and paper towels were clearly the cheapest and thinnest you could possibly find. For the amount of money you spend ($3000 minimum in the Spring with pool heat) you would feel a little more taken care of if the management did not so obviously scrimp on things like paper towels, toilet paper, and dishwasher soap. So some little and not so little things really compromised our stay, sadly. Because this could be a really great spot.

This house offers the perfect getaway! The pool is sooooo beautiful. It`s best pool we have ever seen in a rental. It is very big and has a sun shelf in the water, that is my favorite! I love how the lights change in it at night. Our kids loved it! We has so much fun. It was just great!

Our family of 6 spent our spring break at this home. We loved relaxing by the pool everyday. The size and the shape of the pool are wonderful for a large family. The Back yard is a Sun Lovers Dream!! Sun all day with a beautiful view of the mountains. The master bed room shower drain is plugged and the master bedroom sink flows very little water... The pool heater kept shutting off preventing the spa and pool to heat properly. The pool towels are stiff and ruff! If these minor problems were repaired, I would rent this property again... These Items have been addressed and repaired by the homeowners, Thank you! What I liked about this property is the location. The all day Sun exposure in the back yard. The size of the pool and jacuzzi. The amount of umbrellas and there location.. The back yard is well landscaped and clean.... I look forward to rent this property again...
